Super Bowl V was played on January 17, 1971, between the Baltimore Colts and the Dallas Cowboys. The game took place at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. It was a highly anticipated matchup, as both teams had strong seasons leading up to the Super Bowl.

The Colts, led by their quarterback Johnny Unitas, finished the regular season with a record of 11-2-1, while the Cowboys, led by quarterback Craig Morton, had a record of 10-4. The game started off with a lot of turnovers and mistakes from both teams. The Colts struggled to get their offense going, committing seven turnovers with four fumbles lost, while the Cowboys had four turnovers, including three interceptions. The first half ended with a score of 13-6 in favor of the Cowboys, with their kicker Mike Clark making two field goals.

In the second half, the Colts got their game rolling. They outscored the Cowboys 10-0 in the final two quarters. Colts' RB Tom Nowatzke rushed in for a two-yard score to tie the game at 13. Later in the fourth the Colts took the lead for good on a Jim O'Brien 32-yard FG. They held on and emerged as the victors of Super Bowl V with a final score of 16-13.

The game was known for its sloppy play and numerous turnovers, but it still provided an exciting finish. Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley was named the game's Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his outstanding defensive performance. He is the first and only player to be named Super Bowl MVP from the losing team. Super Bowl V marked the first Super Bowl victory for the Baltimore Colts, who became the second team to win a Super Bowl after losing their first attempt (Kansas City won Super Bowl IV after losing Super Bowl I).
