Super Bowl XXV was held on January 27, 1991, between the New York Giants and the Buffalo Bills. It is famously remembered for its thrilling finish and one of the closest margins of victory in Super Bowl history. The game took place at Tampa Stadium in Tampa, Florida. However, the game took on a more symbolic meaning to our country as it was played while the U.S. troops were in the Gulf War.

The Giants, led by their quarterback Jeff Hostetler and coached by Bill Parcells, employed a ball-control strategy to keep the explosive offense of the Bills, led by quarterback Jim Kelly, off the field. Running back Ottis Anderson played a crucial role for the Giants, rushing for 102 yards and scoring one touchdown and was named Super Bowl MVP.

The Bills, known for their high-scoring offense dubbed the "K-Gun," struggled to find their rhythm early in the game. However, they made a strong comeback in the second half, closing the gap and taking a 19-17 lead on a Thurman Thomas 31-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter.

The game came down to the Giants executing an extraordinary game plan: play solid defense but keep the Bills offense off the field as much as possible. The Giants did that and more. Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor and the defense held the high-powered Bills to 371 total yards but more importantly the Giants' offense held the ball for over 40 minutes!

The most memorable moment of Super Bowl XXV came during the Bills' final possession. With time running out and down a point after a Matt Bahr FG, the Bills drove into field goal range. With less than ten seconds remaining, they lined up for the game winning field goal attempt. However, their kicker Scott Norwood, pushed his 47-yard FG attempt wide right, sealing the Bills' 20-19 loss.

Super Bowl XXV win was the second in the history of the Giants' franchise. It was the Bills first ever Super Bowl appearance. It was also the first Super Bowl between teams from the same state although the Giants play in East Rutherford, NJ.
