Super Bowl XX, held on January 26, 1986, was a historic and lopsided matchup between the Chicago Bears and the New England Patriots. The Bears' dominant defense, known as the "Monsters of the Midway," stole the show and left a lasting impact on the game.

Led by head coach Mike Ditka and defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan, the Bears showcased an incredible defensive performance throughout the game. Their defense recorded seven sacks, intercepted two passes, recovered four fumbles, and even scored a touchdown and safety. This suffocating defense effectively shut down the Patriots' offense and kept them off balance for the entire game.

The Bears' offense, led by quarterback Jim McMahon, was efficient and opportunistic. While not putting up massive numbers, they made the most of their opportunities and executed effectively. McMahon's leadership and the contributions of running back Walter Payton (22 rushes for 61 yards) and receiver Willie Gault (4 receptions for 129 yards) were crucial in maintaining control of the game.

On the other hand, the Patriots struggled to establish any rhythm or sustain drives against the Bears' tenacious defense. Their quarterback, Tony Eason, faced relentless pressure and was eventually replaced by Steve Grogan. The Patriots' lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late to mount a comeback.

With the game well in hand, the Bears added a special TD. In the third and up 37-3, the Bears were on the doorstep to punching another TD in. 1st and Goal and the Bears star defensive lineman, William "Refrigerator" Perry, lined up in the backfield. He wasn't used as a blocker or decoy this time. Perry got the ball and plowed through the line for a 1-yard score. It punctuated a dominant effort not only for this game, but the entire season. The '85 Bears (18-1) are considered one of the best teams in NFL history.

Ultimately, Super Bowl XX ended with a resounding victory for the Chicago Bears, with a final score of 46-10. Bears' DE Richard Dent was named Super Bowl MVP. It was the first Super Bowl for both teams.
