Super Bowl XVIII, held on January 22, 1984, was a clash between the Los Angeles Raiders and Washington Redskins at Tampa Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The Raiders were led by their star quarterback, Jim Plunkett, while the Redskins were quarterbacked by Joe Theismann.

The game started with a tight first quarter, but the Raiders scored first with a fumble recovery in the end zone. The 7-0 score was the closest the Redskins would be in this gamel. In the second quarter, the Raiders' defense stepped up, intercepting Theismann and returning it for a TD to give the Raiders a 21-3 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, John Riggins scored the Redskins only touchdown of the game on a 1 yard run. But that night belonged to the Raiders, especially Marcus Allen. He scored two TDs in the third quarter alone. Allen first score was from five yards out. The second TD was one of the most legendary runs in Super Bowl history. Allen reversed field and sprinted up the middle for a then Super Bowl record 74-yard TD run. That put a bow on his historic 191 yard rushing effort, another Super Bowl record, which earned him Super Bowl MVP honors.

The Raiders would cruise to a 38-9 victory and end the Redskins' chances of repeating as champs. It was the third Super Bowl win for the Raiders franchise.
