He played three years in the Bay before heading south to Los Angeles. He spent the rest of his career in LA, playing eight seasons with the Lakers before joining the Clippers in 1985. However Wilkes would retire during the season. Wilkes was a 2012 Basketball Hall of Fame inductee.

Jamaal Wilkes Championship Run

Known as ‘Silk’ for his smooth play on the court, Jamaal Wilkes career in the NBA was solid from start to finish. He played his role on his teams to perfection, showing up when it counted. He didn’t get the recognition due to his teammates who were some of the greatest to play the game. For instance, Wilkes won Rookie of the Year during Golden State’s 1974-75 NBA championship season but it was Hall of Fame great Rick Barry who shined and took home NBA Finals MVP honors. Wilkes would also be a member of three Lakers’ championship teams, but with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson and James Worthy leading the way, his contributions would never outshine them. But from college to the pros, Wilkes’ career was full of championships.
