Dennis Keith Rodman, nicknamed 'Worm', was born on May 13, 1961 in Trenton, NJ. He is the son of Shirley and Philander Rodman Jr. Growing up, Rodman didn’t play organized basketball. In fact, he probably has traveled one of the most nontraditional, unlikeliest routes to the Basketball Hall of Fame in NBA history. It’s only fitting for the type of player Rodman was during his career.
Rodman attended South Oak Cliff High School. Unlike most Hall of Fame basketball players, Rodman didn’t have a high school basketball career. He entered high school at the height of 5’6” and couldn’t play the game of basketball. Not because he wasn’t tall enough but due to the fact he wasn’t good enough. Rodman grew to 5’11” as a senior but it didn’t make a difference as still didn’t make the team. He enrolled into Cooke County College after graduation.
Dennis Rodman College Career Stats and Notes
During his first and only year at Cooke County College, Rodman grew to a height close to 6'8”! The added height helped propel his basketball career. He transferred to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Rodman led the NAIA with 16.1 and 17.8 rebounds per game averages during his junior and senior seasons, respectively. The Worm was also a 3-time NAIA All-American.

Dennis Rodman Rebounding Champion Streak
Rodman’s Hall of Fame career was defined by captivating moments on and off the court, great defense and outstanding REBOUNDING. Listed at a height of 6’7”, the Worm’s knack for being at the right place when the ball was in the air became his staple during the 90s. Starting from the 1991-92 season when he averaged a career best 18.7 rebounds per game, Rodman went on to win seven consecutive NBA rebounding titles. His hustle on the boards led to many legendary highlight clips. Rodman also had a flair for the moment but it didn’t take away from his amazing skills on defense and rebounding which helped his teams win five NBA championships.
