In 1989, Dumars and the Detroit Pistons, after falling short in the NBA Finals the year before, completed their mission to get back to the championship round. Waiting for them again was the Los Angeles Lakers, a team vying to become the first to win three straight titles since the Boston Celtics in the 1960’s. The series wasn’t close as the Pistons swept the Lakers. Dumars was a huge part in the 4-0 series win as he averaged 27.3 points and 6 assists, which earned him Finals MVP.
