Edgerrin Tyree James was born on August 1, 1978 in Immokalee, FL. He is the son of Julie James and Edward German. He grew up in a poor area of South Florida riddled with crime and drug activity. Edgerrin was determined to make it out and didn’t let his circumstances stop him. One of the ways that helped him stay out of trouble was football. James played football since he was young playing Pop Warner. He didn’t stop playing until he was good enough to be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Edgerrin attended Immokalee High School. He played multiple positions on the field besides running back including linebacker and kicker. At running back, James impressed. One of the best in South Florida, James had earned All-American honors. With major college programs recruiting him, he decided to stay home and play for the University of Miami.
