Mitchell James Richmond was born on June 30, 1965 in Deerfield Beach, FL. He is the son of Ernell O’Neill and Mitch Richmond Sr. Mitch was raised in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Mitch attended Boyd Anderson High School. He didn’t earn a basketball scholarship, and after high school attended Moberly Area Community College.
Mitch Richmond College Career Stats and Notes
Mitch played for Kansas State from 1986-88. He averaged 20 points and 6 rebounds per game in his college career. The Wildcats went to the NCAA tournament both years. In 1988 Richmond, the Second Team All-American, led fourth-seed Kansas State to the Regional Final where they lost to eventual NCAA champion Kansas.

Mitch Richmond NBA Career Stats and Notes
Richmond was the fifth overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft. He was selected by the Golden State Warriors. Mitch, along with teammates Tim Hardaway and Hall of Famer Chris Mullin, were called Run TMC. Mitch spent three years in The Bay before being traded to the Sacramento Kings in 1991. He spent the next seven years in Sacramento, becoming a 6-time All-Star during his time there. In 1998, he was again traded, this time to the Washington Wizards. Mitch spent three years in the nation’s capital. As a free agent he joined the two-time defending champ Los Angeles Lakers in 2001. After years of having a stellar career on mostly good but not contending teams, he finally was able to win a championship as the Lakers completed a 4-0 sweep over the New Jersey Nets in the NBA Finals. Mitch retired after the season and in 2014, was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Mitch Richmond Sacramento Kings Career
Mitch was traded from a successful run with the Warriors, which started with winning Rookie of the Year, to the Kings. However, the best stretch of his career was in Sac town. From 1993 to 1998, Mitch was considered one of the best guards in the West. During the 6 year stretch, Mitch was an all-star every year, and made All-NBA Second Team 5 of those years. In the 1996-97 season he averaged a career high 25.9 points.
