George Gervin NBA Career Stats and Notes

Not eligible for the NBA due to not meeting draft eligibility, Gervin played for several other leagues including the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), Eastern Basketball Association (EBA) and the ABA with the Virginia Squires. In 1974 Gervin was eligible for the NBA Draft and was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 40th pick. However, he decided to stay with the Squires, who would eventually trade him to the San Antonio Spurs. Gervin would remain with the Spurs' franchise for most of his professional basketball career as the Spurs merged into the NBA in 1976.  Nicknamed ‘Iceman’, Gervin spent nine seasons with the NBA’s Spurs before being traded to the Chicago Bulls in 1985. He spent one season with the Bulls and retired after it was over. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996.

George Gervin: The Iceman Legacy

From high school to the pros, the Iceman was a pure scorer. His iconic shot, the finger roll, was something every player knew was coming but couldn’t stop it. He could finger roll from any point in the paint and from out as far as the free throw line. Even at the highest level of competition, the Iceman, given to him for his cool, smooth game, outscored the best NBA players. He led the league in scoring four times in a 5 year span from 1978-82.
