Adrian Delano Dantley was born on February 28, 1955 in Washington, D.C. He was primarily raised by his mother Virginia Dantley as his parents parted ways when Adrian was three.  Despite not having his father around, Dantley rose above it, using his gifts to excel at the game of basketball and also in the classroom.

Dantley attended DeMatha High School. He was one of the best high school players in the country his senior year, being named National High School Player of the Year and a High School All-American. Dantley had offers from all over the country. He chose to continue his basketball career at Notre Dame.

Adrian Dantley Utah Jazz Career

With all the high accolades earned in high school and college, Dantley was seen as one of the next great players to join the NBA. Although he had a Hall of Fame career, there were bumps in the road. No NBA titles although he came close if it wasn’t for a midseason trade from the eventual NBA champion Pistons to the Mavericks during the 1988-89 season. However, he did find stability with the Utah Jazz. He played in Salt Lake City for seven years and that was when he was able to show his potential. During a 4-year stretch from 1980-84, Dantley averaged over 30 points a game, including winning two NBA scoring titles in 1981 and 1984.
