Eddie Clarence Murray was born on February 24, 1956 in Los Angeles, CA. He is the son of Carrie and Charles Murray. One of seven children, the Murrays grew up in the Watts, an area known for its history of notorious gang violence. Guns and drugs was everywhere around the family but the parents did their best to keep their children from getting involved. One of the best ways is sports and baseball was the sport of choice. Eddie was as talented as they came.
Murray attended Locke High School. Teammate of future MLB Hall of Fame player Ozzie Smith, Murray excelled at the game of baseball. During his senior year, he was a good pitcher who batted .500 and led his team to their league championship. After high school, Murray was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Eddie Murray MLB Career Stats and Notes
Murray made his MLB Debut on April 7, 1977. He spent the first 12 years of his career with the Orioles. After the 1988 season, Murray joined the Los Angeles Dodgers via trade and played there for three seasons. In 1992 Murray was on the move again, this time to the Empire State to play for the New York Mets for two seasons. Murray signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Indians at the end of 1993 and played there for almost three full seasons; he was traded back to the team that drafted him, the Orioles, during the 1996 season. In 1997, which was Murray’s last season in the majors, he played for two teams, the Anaheim Angels and the Dodgers once again. Murray would retire after the season after only playing 55 games total that year. In 2003, Murray was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Becoming one of only 7 players to have over 500 homers and 3,000 will certainly punch your ticket to Cooperstown, but one of Eddie Murray’s best seasons helped his team win the ultimate prize - the World Series. In 1983, Murray hit .306 with career best 33 HRs. He drove in 111 runs and scored 115 runs. His spectacular season helped the Orioles win the AL East with a 98-64 record.
The Orioles defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-1 in the ALCS and advanced to their first World Series since 1979 which they lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates. They faced the other Pennsylvania team this time, the Philadelphia Phillies in what was called “the I-95 Series”. The Orioles would prevail and took the World Series title with a 4-1 series win.
