Michael Anthony Strahan was born on November 21, 1971 in Houston, TX. He is the son of Louise and Gene Strahan. Michael spent a lot of his youth overseas. His father was in the military and the Strahan family lived in Germany until they moved back to the states during his high school years.
Strahan attended Westbury High School. He came back to Texas during his senior year. With only one year of high school football, Strahan showed flashes of promise. Due to his limited exposure he didn’t garner much attention from major colleges. However he did play well enough to earn a college scholarship to Texas Southern University.

Strahan played for Texas Southern from 1990-92. . He was a force on the field, creating havoc for opposing offenses. He recorded 41.5 sacks during his college career. In 1992, he had a stellar senior year when he had 62 tackles (32 for losses) and an incredible 19 sacks. He was a First Team All-American selection that year and was selected as the SWAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Michael Strahan NFL Career Stats and Notes
Strahan was selected in the 2nd round (40th overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. Strahan spent his entire 14-year career in the Big Apple, making the Pro Bowl seven times. The 4-time First Team All-Pro also helped the Giants make two Super Bowl appearances, which included the shocking 17-14 upset of undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Strahan retired after becoming a super bowl champion in 2008. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
Michael Strahan 2001 NFL Defensive Player of the Year
By 2001, Strahan was one of the premiere pass rushers in the league. He was already a multiple First Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection and helped the Giants reach Super Bowl XXXV a season earlier. Strahan took his career to another level in 2001 and made NFL history in the process. <br>
Strahan was on a mission that season. He would go on and set an NFL records with 22.5 sacks. He would also rack up 73 tackles and took a fumble back for a TD. His record-setting play earned him the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award.
